As we get older there are several factors in your body that change, often making it more difficult to do everyday tasks. These include reduced bone density, reduced muscle power, problems with co-ordination and balance and joint stiffness. People are also more at risk of health conditions such as stroke and heart issues.

People can notice these issues in lots of different ways. Commonly people find they are not able to walk as far or as easily, or that they feel more unsteady on their feet and are at risk of falls. This leads to a loss of independence, confidence and a poorer quality of life.

Fortunately, Physiotherapy can help! Whilst we cannot stop the aging process, Physiotherapists are trained to identify specific problem areas and find ways of overcoming them. Research shows that Physiotherapy can help people to be more independent in later life, improving function and quality of life for those they treat.

On your first visit from a Physiotherapist we will complete a detailed assessment, looking at a range of issues that may be affecting you. We will then devise a treatment programme specifically designed to address your concerns. This may include advice, exercises and “hands on” techniques such as massage. On the following visits we will review this programme and adjust it to ensure if still meets your needs.
