We were delighted to be featured in the June 2026 edition of The Care Home Environment magazine, writing about how regular physiotherapy support in care homes can help meet new government neighbourhood health aims, while boosting independence and quality of life.

The UK has an ageing population, with increasing numbers of older adults living with complex health conditions, frailty, disability and cognitive impairment. Care homes have become an increasingly crucial component of the health and social care system — providing long-term support for individuals who are no longer able to live independently. Yet 60 per cent of care homes still use physiotherapy services compared to 99 per cent in the Netherlands, and some care homes in the UK do not use physiotherapy services at all.

In the article we cover the role of physiotherapists and occupational therapists in promoting mobility and function, preventing falls, reducing avoidable hospital admissions and enhancing overall quality of life — and how multidisciplinary, person-centred therapy delivered in the care home setting benefits residents, families, staff and the wider health and social care system.

Our thanks to The Care Home Environment for the opportunity to share this work with care home managers and owners across the UK.
