SEVERN   Community Therapy CIC

Our social enterprise — a Community Interest Company reinvesting in creative, community-led support for older people across the South West.

A different kind of therapy provider

Severn Community Therapy CIC is the social-enterprise arm of Severn Physiotherapy. As a Community Interest Company, we exist to benefit the community first. Any profit we make is reinvested into projects that improve the lives of older people locally.

It is where we get to be creative: trying new ideas and working with partners who share our values. We reach people who would otherwise go without skilled rehabilitation, movement and connection. Especially those who live with neurological disease, cognitive impairment and frailty.

Our CIC in the news!

Our first funded project

Bringing movement and music to care homes across North Somerset

We are delighted to have been awarded a grant from the Better Health Physical Activity Fund, North Somerset Council to deliver physiotherapy-led silent discos in care homes throughout North Somerset.

Each session pairs the joy and energy of a silent disco with the expertise of a chartered physiotherapist — gently encouraging movement, balance, coordination and social connection in a way that feels nothing like a traditional exercise class. Residents choose their music, move at their own pace, and staff and families are welcome to join in. The headsets are comfy and work well with hearing aids.

It is exactly the kind of imaginative, community-led work our CIC was built to do: clinically meaningful, genuinely fun, and accessible to older people who might otherwise miss out.

The Community Interest Company model

A CIC is a special type of company designed for social enterprises. Its assets and profits are locked in — they have to be used for community benefit, not extracted by owners. That structure gives our community real protection and gives funders, partners and the people we serve confidence that we are in this for the right reasons.

  • Community Interest Company registered in England & Wales
  • Asset-locked — surplus stays in the community
  • Independent of any single funder
  • Governed by directors with clinical and lived experience

Partner, fund or refer

Whether you are a commissioner, charity, funder, care home or community group, we would love to hear from you. Tell us what your community needs and we will explore how the CIC can help.

What our CIC stands for

Six principles that guide every project we run through Severn Community Therapy CIC.

  • Profits reinvested

As a Community Interest Company, our surplus is locked in for community benefit — funding free and subsidised sessions, equipment and outreach rather than paying out to shareholders.

  • Older people first

Everything we do is shaped around the needs of older adults — falls prevention, rehabilitation, dementia support, social connection and staying active at home.

  • Creative, community-led

From silent discos in care homes to seated exercise groups and allotment sessions, we try imaginative ideas that bring real joy alongside clinical benefit.

  • Accessible to all

We work hard to remove cost as a barrier — partnering with the NHS, local authorities, charities and funders so older people can access therapy regardless of means.

  • Rooted in the South West

We are local. Our team lives and works in Bristol, North Somerset, Somerset and Devon, and our projects strengthen the communities we are part of.

  • People over paperwork

Person-centred, kind and unhurried care. We measure success by lives improved, falls prevented and confidence restored — not just by activity counts.

Welcome to the team

Andy Carter-Weston joins as Non-Executive Director

Andy brings a wealth of experience in acute medical care from his career as a paramedic and senior roles in urgent and emergency care. He has worked within multi-sector teams to improve frailty, dementia and end-of-life pathways — all key areas for the people we support.

Andy is a great match for our CIC, with a shared passion for person-centred and community care. He will help guide us across every aspect of our work, from governance through to frontline clinical practice.

Thank you for joining our team, Andy.

What's next for our CIC

Two future projects we are actively scoping to bring to communities across the South West.

Coming next

Inter-generational silent discos

We are planning to partner with local organisations to bring care home residents and school pupils together for shared silent disco sessions — joyful, active and great for everyone involved.

Together we hope to break down generational barriers, reduce isolation for older residents and give pupils a meaningful, memorable experience in their local community.

Coming next

Care Home Memory Cafe

We are raising money to launch a brand new Memory Service in care homes across our area — a dedicated programme to support people living with dementia at every stage, alongside the families and care staff who love and look after them.

  • For residents — meaningful, targeted and appropriate, person-centred activities that nurture memory, identity and wellbeing. Using evidence-based clinical methods shown to benefit those living with dementia.
  • For families — guidance, reassurance, liaison and practical tools to stay connected as dementia changes over time.
  • For care staff — training, coaching and in-the-moment support to deliver confident, compassionate dementia care. Help with manual handling equipment, devices and movement techniques.
